Race day: Saturday 6 March 2027. You race, you celebrate, you collapse.

Days 2 to 4 after race: Monday to Wednesday. You arrive at the airport; your bike case is already there, waiting for you at the designated meeting point.

Why This Matters for International Athletes

For New Zealand-based athletes, the post-race logistics are simpler — you drive home with your bike case in your own vehicle. But for international athletes, particularly those from Australia, the United Kingdom, Europe, and North America, the storage problem is acute:

• Hotel storage is unreliable. Many Taupō accommodations are holiday homes, motels, and smaller properties without secure storage facilities for oversized items. Even larger hotels may not guarantee safe storage for a bike case worth protecting.

• Bike cases cannot travel everywhere. If your post-race plans include visiting Rotorua, Napier, or Wellington, the bike case is an impediment. It takes up the entire boot of a rental car. It cannot be checked into every accommodation. It limits your options.

• Airport logistics on departure day are stressful enough. Arriving at Auckland Airport with an international flight to catch, clearing check-in with an oversized item, and managing the bike case through the terminal is significantly easier when you haven't also just driven three hours from Taupō with the case balanced in the back of an unfamiliar rental car.
